Information about the monuments in Badajoz

This activity consists of a translation into English of a tourist information leaflet from Badajoz Town council translated by the students from PCPI2 course. Thanks to Macarena, Patricia, Mª José, Tamara, Erika, Aroa, Sandra, Sheila, Debora, Nuno, Pablo, Ernesto, Fran, Víctor and Jesús.

Atalaya Tower: María José Salguero Pérez y Tamara Sánchez Remedios.

The flanking towers of the fortress, popularly known as the most monumental Espantaperros. Their construction is reminiscent of the "Torre del Oro" (Gold Tower) in Seville, higher proportions but badajoz post. It reaches thirty feet high, octagonal and has a fixed building - the galley-sixteenth century, it was City Hall, hospice, prison, school, etc.


Capitel Gate: Sheila Nogales Muñoz

It is the main acess to the Alcazaba from the Plaza de San José. Its structure is the traditional model in a corner defense works from the Almohad period. A remodel of the sixteenth century covered a Renaissance drawing.


Alcazaba: Luis Miguel Romero Durán y Víctor Sánchez Ventura

Original of IX century, it was remodeled on everal occasions.
Slightly preserved altered almohad of XII century.
It has three main doors: Capital, Alpendiz and trucks or Yelba ,and a gate so-called Betrayal.
Until the XVI century almost the entire population lived inside.Whit the exception of the west suburbs.
During the Arab period existed inside three mosques, Palacion sumptuous of thrush and the Renaissance monarchs built in the XVI century by Suarez de Figueroa, now a Provincial Archaeological Museum. As an example of military architecture of XVIII XIX centuries, they built the complex known military hospital, now a Extremadura Regional Library and School of Library, Documentation and Audiovisual Communication.
